Good Pitch Brings Out The Best
Breska Rovers 1 – 1 Shannonside FC.
Our Under 10A Boys Team travelled to play Breska Rovers on Tuesday night in what was their final match of the season. It was a fine evening and many parents stayed to cheer on the boys. The pitch was in excellent condition and this seemed to bring out the best in the boys on the night.
The Manager (Alan Moroney), based on experiences over the last couple of matches, decided to try an experimental lineup. Sean had demonstrated his defence abilities in the previous match and so retained the position at the heart of defence with Ewan and Cillian alongside him. Philip Kearney now moved up front on his own. Conor Clifford, AJ, Aidan, and Shane O’Mahoney filled the midfield and Stephen was back in goals.
Breska still had something to play for in the League and came out with guns blazing only to be met by the strong midfield and stern defence of Shannonside. Our lads soon got stuck in and began to move the ball around the midfield with AJ and Aidan pushing forward while Conor and Shane played a holding role. The sides were evenly matched with neither defence giving up much.
However we were definitely slightly on top at this stage and our breakthrough came when a ball broke to Aidan O’Malley in midfield and he surged forward toward the goals. He may well have tried a shot himself but instead, catching the movement of Philip on the left hand side he slotted a perfectly weighted ball through the defenders into his path and Philip had no hesitation in slamming the ball into the bottom corner of the net. A goal worthy of the Premiership. We dominated the rest of the half and had a couple more half chances, as did Breska.
The second half again started with the sides fairly matched. As we pushed to get a second goal we left some holes that Breska started to take advantage of. They mounted a series of attacks that, despite some fine defending, led to them scoring an equaliser about half way through the second half. Alan, having made a couple of changes at half time now brought on the rest of the subs to freshen up the team. Hal, Paudie, Adam and Norby were now playing. Both sides had further chances to score but in the end the strong defences of both sides won out.
An entertaining match played in excellent conditions and a fitting end to our league season. There will be one more training session to celebrate and finish up the season with Pizza and Ice-Cream.
Well done to all the team for all the effort they have put in this season.
